Says Wike moblised for Tinubu’s election
President-elect, Bola Tinubu’s faction of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has said it will support Governor Nyesom Wike’s governorship candidate because Wike facilitated Tinubu’s victory.

South-South Coordinator of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Vanguard and Chairman, National Protocol Committee of Tinubu Campaign Council in the state, Tony Okocha, stated this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt during a press conference. He admitted that Wike was instrumental to Tinubu’s victory.

Okocha said Wike mobilised human and material resources to make APC score over 40 per cent votes, adding that without such support, they wouldn’t have been enough the finance election.

He said: “To those who supported us, we will support them also. We are to reciprocate what we got. The APC governorship candidate in Rivers should be able to tell Rivers people and Nigerians if he voted for Tinubu that day. We are doing something not different from what is natural, what is expected, what is reasonable to be done. We’ll support Wike on the governorship election.

“It is an under statement to say Wike was key to the victory of Tinubu in Rivers State. I don’t even know the words to use to say the governor was instrumental one million and one times to making of APC victorious in the state.”

Okocha said the faction’s decision could not be judged to be anti-party because they are only reciprocating goodwill.

He recalled that the Chibuike Amaechi faction of the APC could not deliver President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, hence their resolve to move on because they could not work together.

“They tried all they could in 2015 but could not deliver the presidential candidate of APC. Buhari in 2015 scored 65,000 in presidential election in Rivers State as against two million votes and the PDP candidate, Goodluck Jonathan, won the majority votes.

“In 2019, the matter became worse. But in 2023, the governor of the state did not only throw his weight behind Tinubu, he told Rivers people that they should vote for somebody he believes in,” he said.

Okocha said Wike had not left his party, the PDP, despite his role in Tinubu’s victory , claiming that his faction is in charge of APC in Rivers.
