Tiv urge government intervention to check Taraba killings
The leadership of the Taraba chapter of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association has sought the immediate intervention of the state and federal governments to contain the killings in the state.
The Guardian learnt that no fewer than 30 persons had been reportedly killed in the land disputes involving the Tiv and Ichen ethnic groups in Donga council area of the state.
Besides, 21 others are believed to be missing.
Deploring the development in a statement yesterday in Jalingo, the group’s president General, Chief Goodman Dahida, regretted that the crisis, which ordinarily should have been resolved by the village heads, had been hijacked by “hoodlums leading to the massacre of over 31 Tiv persons and destruction of valuable property worth millions of naira.”
He expressed sadness that despite the many peace initiatives, the killings had remained unabated.
