Immediate past President/Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Valentine Ozigbo, plans to honour heroes of the #EndSARS protests through an essay contest.

The competition, which will focus on heroes of the upheavals, comes with a cash prize of N500,000. According to Ozigbo, it is important to share the stories of Nigerians who went out of their way to display humanity and protect the vulnerable, despite the raging conflict across the country.

Citing the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra State, Rabiu Garba, the astute banker lauded young Nigerians for their exceptional display of courage and kindness during the protests.

He said: “I was specially moved by the story of Rabiu Garba, the DPO of Fegge in Onitsha. His act of courage during the violence that broke out following the #EndSARS protests is heart-warming, encouraging and worthy of praise. More inspiring was his display of empathy, humility and love as he walked his beat as an officer of the law prior to the protests. He stepped up and showed what leadership looks like. He is my hero.”

Urging young Nigerians to take part in the competition by sharing stories of other heroes, he stressed that its aim was to highlight the unity of Nigerians in the pursuit of peace and progress.

“Just as there are some Nigerians showing their worst selves during this period, there are many of us also showing the best of humanity. I am starting this #EndSarsHeroes to celebrate those Nigerians who displayed kindness to others, went beyond their call of duty to save lives, who were simply being human,” added the Anambra 2021 governorship hopeful.
