Tension in Borno as viral video shows suspected child soldiers in forest

Troops of Sector 1 of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in collaboration with the Civilian JTF has foiled an attack on Pulka community with the insurgents in disarray in the Firgi-Pulka axis of Gwoza Local Government Area(LGA) of Borno state.

The troops’ foil of attack was coordinated in a night ambush along the Firgi crossing point into Sambisa Forest.

OPHK Media Information Officer, Lt-Col. Sani Uba on Monday via a statement in Maiduguri said: The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, unaware of the troops’ concealed tactical deployment, ran into an effective enfilade fire and were forced to withdraw in disarray.”

He added that some of the terrorists that sustained gunshot wounds had to retreat by fleeing into the forest, located west of Pulka, and a border community with Cameroon.

Besides the thwarting of attack, Uba stated that there were subsequent exploitation of the contact area, which led to the recovery of a sizeable cache of critical logistics supplies, intended for terrorist resupply operations.

According to him, the interception has significantly disrupted the terrorists’ sustainment capacity and operational reach within the Gwoza and Bana LGAs.

In a related development, troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Chabbal checkpoint along the 40km Maiduguri-Magumeri road intercepted a suspicious vehicle conveying five passengers and its driver.

He stated that on troops’ thorough search of the vehicle, resulted into the recovery of the sum of ₦37 million.

He said the money was.carefully concealed in bags, alongside several units of mobile phones suspected to be linked to what he described as, terrorists financing and coordination activities in the Northeast.

Beyond the recovery of N37 million, Uba added: “The Interception of money represents a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts of troops to dismantle financial conduits suspected to support terrorists’ logistics and operational activities in the theatre of war.

“The coordinated military operations demonstrate OPHK’s proactive strategy of tightening the noose on terrorist supply chains by targeting physical movement corridors and financial enablers.

“The sustained pressure across key transit routes and support networks reflect a deliberate approach to weaken terrorist elements from within by limiting their capacity to regenerate combat power,” said Uba.
