Troops across various Theatre of Operations in the North repelled attacks and neutralised 27 terrorists over the weekend.

In the North East troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) repelled a terrorist attack on position of 101 Special Forces Battalion at Kukawa, neutralised more than 25 fighters and destroyed 10 motorcycles belonging to the insurgents in Borno State.

The terrorists launched the attack at about 2250 hours on 28 August 2026, but troops responded swiftly with effective direct and indirect fire, successfully repelling the attack and compelling the terrorists to withdraw towards the Cross Kauwa axis.

During the fierce engagement, many terrorists were observed to have sustained gunshot wounds as they fled the area as subsequent exploitation led to the recovery of terrorist corpses, further confirming casualties inflicted on them during the encounter.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Capt. Mohammed Goni, said as the fighters withdrew towards Cross Kauwa on motorcycles, the Air Component of OPHK was promptly coordinated to interdict their movement.

Goni said that in spite of the challenging weather conditions, the Air Component successfully engaged terrorists taking cover under trees and neutralised an estimated 10 terrorists.

“Thereafter, the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets tracked about 20 motorcycles conveying fleeing terrorists towards the Tunbuns/Kangarwa axis.

“The intelligence enabled the Air Component to conduct a follow-up precision strike, neutralising an additional 15 terrorists and destroying 10 motorcycles, thereby further degrading the terrorists’ mobility and fighting capability.”

According to him, during subsequent exploitation operations, ground troops recovered two motorcycles, neutralised an additional terrorist and recovered assorted ammunition and other items.

He said the coordinated ground and air action effectively disrupted the attack, interdicted the terrorists’ withdrawal and further degraded their ability to regroup or conduct sustained operations within the area.

Goni said the troops were immediately replenished by air with essential combat enablers to sustain operational effectiveness and maintain pressure on the terrorists.

“Four personnel recorded no life threatening injuries during the engagement. The wounded personnel were promptly evacuated by air for further medical attention and are confirmed to be in stable condition.”

He said the troops have since commenced reorganisation and extensive exploitation of the area, while battle damage assessment and further evaluation of the encounter were ongoing.

In the North West, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) killed an ally of terrorist kingpin – Kachalla Muhammadu Fila, described as his Lieutenant, “Smally” in enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The troops recovered three machine guns, two AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition and six motorcycles used by the terrorists for their nefarious activities.

Media Information Officer, OPFY, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said that Smally was eliminated in fierce encounter between troops and the terrorists during a clearance operation within their enclaves on 29 August 2026.

While in the North Central, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) neutralised a suspected terrorists’ arms courier in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering weapons and other logistic items.

The arms courier’s green-coloured Golf vehicle with registration number DKA-808XM was intercepted during a stop and search operation.

OPEP Spokesman, Capt. Chinonso Oteh, said that the troops searched vehicle and discovered a well fabricated and concealed compartment inside the dashboard, adding that while directing the driver to open the compartment, he refused and tactically fled into nearby bush.

“Consequently, troops aggressively pursued and apprehended the driver. Upon being apprehended, the driver attempted to disarm one of the soldiers and was swiftly neutralized. Items recovered after thorough search of the vehicle includes, two AK 47 rifles, a magazines, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.”
