Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the North East have killed 26 suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Ngwom community of Mafa Local Council in Borno state.

The terrorists were neutralised while crossing the Maiduguri-Dikwa Road on 20 motorcycles into Sambisa Forest.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad Region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri that: “The troops achieved the feat while acting on credible intelligence,” adding that the terrorists were moving in the Mafa axis to attack a military post along the road.

Makama said the troops swiftly acted in collaboration with the Civilian JTF and laid an ambush against the terrorists and neutralised about 26 of them.

Besides, he added that the troops also captured a suspected terrorist alive, while others fled with gunshot wounds into the forest.

On how insurgents were killed, he said: “The laid ambush triggered a heavy gunfire between the troops and fleeing terrorists.

“They later retreated and attempted fleeing, but the ground troops chased them and killed over two dozen terrorists.”

He noted that two members of the Civilian JTF were, however, wounded during the fierce gun battle with the terrorists fleeing on motorcycles.

The troops also recovered two motorcycles and other weapons used in attacking communities in the Mafa-Dikwa axis.
