The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI, Maj.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has appreciated the troops of 112 Task Force Battalion, Mafa, for their efforts in thwarting a midnight attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on the town in the early hours of Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Shaibu, who gave the commendation during an operational visit to the troops on March 21, 2023, applauded their tenacity and fierce-fighting spirit during the encounter.

The GOC described their tenacity as one of the hallmarks of soldiering and lauded the concerted efforts of the troops in not only defending Mafa town but for also successfully neutralising scores of the attackers in collaboration with fighter aircraft, Air Component Operation Hadin Kai, causing the hasty retreat of surviving terrorists.

The GOC also used the operational visit to charge the troops to remain resilient and be alert to deal decisively with the remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists within the area of operations. He, thereafter, extended the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, to the troops for their conduct in foiling the attack.

Besides, he further emphasised the COAS’s directives for troops to go after the remnants of terrorists not leaving out their hideouts and enclaves.
He admonished the troops to remain courageous, disciplined, vigilant and professional, urging them to eschew all acts inimical to actualisation of the operational objectives.
