A former Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gusau, Dr Hassan Abubakar Augie and his son were rescued from armed bandits by troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadarin Daji deployed at Forward Operating Base Mada in Zamfara State.

According to a statement on the Nigerian Army Twitter handle, the pair were rescued today, Friday, August 11, by the troops who were on routine patrol along the Shemori-Yandoto road.

The troops engaged the bandits, which led to their fleeing into the forest along the area.

The OPHD troops immediately went in pursuit of the bandits, which forced them to abandon the former Provost and his son.

The troops recovered two operational motorcycles from the fleeing bandits.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the abductees were taken by bandits late Thursday night from their residence.

Meanwhile, the kidnapped victims have been reunited with their families.
