United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington as the Ukraine war and Iran conflict entered critical phases.

The meetings came amid contrasting relationships between Trump and the two leaders. While Zelensky’s engagement with Trump has helped strengthen discussions around support for Ukraine amid Russian advances, Netanyahu’s visit came against the backdrop of stalled efforts toward a wider resolution of the Iran conflict.

Both leaders were in Washington to attend a memorial service for Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican lawmaker and close Trump ally who had repeatedly urged the president to provide stronger support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.

Ahead of his meeting with Trump, Zelensky said strengthening anti-ballistic defence systems and strategic cooperation with the United States were top priorities.

“Peace needs to be brought closer,” Zelensky said in a post on X as he arrived in Washington.

The discussions come at a time when both conflicts appear to be at decisive points.
Following the collapse of a ceasefire in the Iran conflict, Trump said he had paused further US airstrikes to allow room for diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Zelensky arrived in Washington after recent battlefield gains by Ukrainian forces, though the war continues with no clear end in sight.

Analysts say the meetings could shape the next phase of U.S. involvement in both conflicts, as Washington weighs diplomatic options alongside security commitments to its allies.
