Two Reps members dump APC for ADC, PRP

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen

All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections have continued to generate political ripples, with the ruling party losing two serving members of the House of Representatives to opposition parties.

The lawmakers, Abubakar Baba Zango, who represents Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, and Rabilu Bala, who is the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, have formally announced their exit from the APC.

While Zango defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bala, who hails from Bauchi State, joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), citing political considerations and approval of their constituents following the outcome of the party’s primaries.

Their defections were formally communicated to the House during plenary yesterday, presided over by Speaker Abass Tajudeen, through separate letters addressed to the Speaker, who read the correspondence before members.

In his letter, Zango explained that his decision followed developments within the APC in his constituency, which he said made it difficult for him to continue pursuing his political aspirations within the party.

Similarly, Bala said his move to the PRP was motivated by the need to continue his political journey on a platform he believes aligns with his constituents’ interests.

Following the announcement, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abass Tajudeen, acknowledged the lawmakers’ decisions and wished them success in their new political parties.

The defections underscore growing tensions and realignments within the APC following its primary elections, as aggrieved aspirants and elected officials continue to reassess their political future ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Political observers believe the latest exits could signal further movement across party lines in the coming weeks as dissatisfied party members weigh their options in the aftermath of the contentious APC primaries.
