U.S., France congratulate Buhari, pledge more support for Nigeria

The United States (US) and the Republic of France have congratulated President Buhari on his re-election and for the successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly polls last Saturday.

The United States (US) and the Republic of France have congratulated President Buhari on his re-election and for the successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly polls last Saturday.

The two countries, in separate statements, yesterday, commended Nigerians who participated in the exercise, but condemned the violent incidents that marred the polls in some parts of the country. US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, noted the assessments of international and domestic observer missions affirmed the overall credibility of the election, despite localised violence and irregularities. He encouraged Nigerians to ensure successful governorship elections on Saturday, stating that the US was committed to working with Nigeria to achieve greater peace and prosperity for both countries.

In a statement by the Press Attaché, at the French Embassy, Damilola Ayodeji, the country promised to continue to stand by Nigeria and provide full support for the implementation of its priorities.
