UniAbuja to make business name ownership criteria for graduation – CAC
The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) will make business name ownership a criterion for students to graduate, according to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
“Owning a registered business name will soon be a requirement for graduation from the University of Abuja,” CAC tweeted on Tuesday quoting the leadership of UniAbuja.
Registrar General of the CAC Garba Abubakar spoke at a lecture tagged “Importance of Business Registration” at UniAbuja.
He said CAC’s partnership with UniAbuja is to promote entrepreneurship among students.
Abubakar highlighted the benefits of business registration, including legal identity, legal protection, operating a business account, access to loans, obtaining a visa, and getting all rights accorded to businesses and companies in Nigeria, amongst others.
Represented by Habu Bala (SM/Rep. AEA One stop-shop), the CAC boss rolled out steps to ensure successful business registration in real-time on the Companies Registration Portal (CRP).
He also used the forum to highlight the Commission’s reform initiatives and their impact on the business environment.
Bala enjoined the students and the general public to leverage the opportunities provided by the CAC reforms to register their companies.
Also speaking, Professor Abdulrazak Abdulrazak, Director Centre for Entrepreneurship, underscored the importance of the registration highlighting its vast potential for the economic growth of the students.
He added that the university was collaborating to start off the scheme shortly upon obtaining a waiver from the CAC.
Some students in attendance applauded the University of Abuja for the initiative, which they say will go a long way in reshaping their approach to entrepreneurship within and outside the campus.
Highlights of the event include a question and answer session. The CAC has, meanwhile, entered into a partnership with the University of Abuja to generate employment opportunities for Nigerian youths and also promote entrepreneurship.
