UNIBEN condemns death of final year student
The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, yesterday, condemned the killing of a final year student of the institution by suspected cultists.
The undergraduate, simply identified as Mayor, was shot dead by suspected cultists inside UNIBEN Hall of residence.
Mayor, a student of the Department of Public Administration, was shot in the face at close range in Hall 3, at about 9:00p.m. on Monday.
A source told The Guardian that the victim was also the Kegite chief of the school.
Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, in a statement, said the management was working closely with the police and internal security to apprehend the killer.
“The management of University of Benin has condemned the brutal killing of a final year male student, known mostly as ‘Mayor’ (real name withheld), on Monday night, March 3, 2023.
“The gruesome shooting occurred in one of the halls of residence and was carried out by a yet-to-be-identified gunman.”
While commiserating with the family and colleagues of the late student, the management enjoined other students to be calm.
