Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has described mothers as “major cultivators of moral rectitude” in building a modern and desirable society.

He made the remarks, yesterday, on the occasion of this year’s Mothering Sunday to celebrate the invaluable contributions of mothers across the world.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, the governor stated: “My administration has continued to implement policies and programmes that enhance the welfare and well being of our mothers, particularly in the area of healthcare and security.”He assured mothers of policies and programmes that would transform them.

BESIDES, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State hailed mothers for their sacrifices in ensuring family cohesion and nation building. He observed that mothers play critical roles in building societies and have performed their duties creditably.

Obaseki said: “We have brought mothers to the decision table, as we have a good number of women occupying top tier positions in government, which affords us the opportunity to tap from their innate potential to build a better and inclusive society.”

The governor said mothers constitute a larger section of his support base, reassuring them that he would continue to advance policies and programmes to give them opportunity to contribute to sustainable development.

ALSO, mothers have been urged to display righteousness and holiness all times. During an event at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Ijeshatedo, Lagos, President of the Women’s Organisation, Mrs. Christy Nwankerendu, gave the meaning of a mother as protector, disciplinarian and friend.

Her words: “A mother is a selfless loving human who sacrifices many of her wants and needs for her children and those around her. She works to make sure her children are equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to make them competent being. A mother’s love shapes culture and individual.”

She noted that the goal of every wise mother “is to give light to the family.”

ALSO yesterday, the celebrants were charged to model their lives after Jesus Christ, who died over 2,000 years ago. Mrs. Ebele Okere, who made the appeal, yesterday, at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos, noted that the vision given to Moses “is now available to every believer in Christ.”

She said Christ’s death had broken the veil on the altar, making room for Christians to relate with the Lord directly. Speaking on the theme, “Transformed Into His Image,” the preacher described transformation as showing forth the character of Jesus. She, therefore, called on mothers and believers to be like Jesus.
