Contrary to reports that commercial activities have been suspended on the Warri-Itakpe standard gauge, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has clarified that it had only stopped picking of passengers at the Ajaokuta station for security reasons.

In a statement, the management reaffirmed that train service on the axis remains fully operational, but temporarily suspended passenger train stoppage at Ajaokuta station due to communal clashes pending restoration of peace in the area.

NRC Managing Director, Fidelis Okhiria, in a chat, said the corporation took the decision due to a report of an attempted abduction of some passengers that left Ajaokuta station by road to Abuja, adding that the vehicle was shot, but luckily, the occupants escaped.
