We are not  owing salaries LG workers, Ebonyi government replies NULGE

Ebonyi state government yesterday debunked the claims by National President, Ibrahim khaleel Ebonyi state was among the States in the country still owing the salaries of local government workers in the state.

In a press conference in Abakaliki the Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Barr. Samuel Okoronkwo said that the state is not owing salaries of local government workers noting that the state has paid backlog of arrears owned to workers by previous administration.

He stated that workers’ welfare had remained the priority of the present administration further debunked the claim that the government was owing the salaries of local government workers in the state.

On the issue of payment of pension arrears to LG workers, the Commissioner stated that the committee that was set up by the state government would soon come with its recommendations which would assist it commence the payment in no distant time.

According to Okoronkwo, the state government had never toiled with the payment of workers’ salaries despite the meagre federal allocation that come to the state on a monthly bases; the government will remain committed to this onerous task as the report against the government is mischievous and misleading.

Collaborating with the state government the state chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade. Leonard Nkah who described the statement as misleading and untrue added that local government workers were only awaiting the payment of their June salary as the state government had been prompt in the payment of workers’ salaries in the state.

Nkah commended the state government for the modalities it has put in place for the continuous payment of LG workers’ salaries charged the national body of the Union to always ascertain its facts before going to the press.
