The President/CEO of Ogoni Liberation Initiative, Dr. Fabeke Douglas said that through capacity building, policy dialogue, mentorship, and continental collaboration, they will continue to train African youth as innovators, problem solvers, and partners in sustainable development.

Douglas made the assertion in a message to commemorate 2026 International Youth Day with a theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” saying, it reminds us that although young people live under vastly different social, economic, and cultural circumstances, they share common aspirations.

According to the President, every year on 12th August, the world commemorates International Youth Day, established by the United Nations in 1999, we recognize the vital role young people play in advancing sustainable development and promotes meaningful participation in society.

He stated that although young people live under vastly different social, economic, quality education, decent work, good health, adding, meaningful participation, and the opportunity to shape a better future for themselves and their communities.

“In my commitment to leadership development for young people, I believe that empowering youth begins with listening to their voices and equipping them with the leadership skills, networks, and opportunities needed to thrive.”

Meanwhile, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Biara Chapter,has formally declared its support for the Oil Resumption Dialogue Process,aimed at promoting consultation, and a peaceful resolution of issues surrounding the possible resumption of oil exploration and production in Ogoniland.

The Biara Chapter also endorsed the ongoing efforts of MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke, alongside other stakeholders for facilitating the dialogue processes, and made it an inclusive and transparent that takes into consideration the interests, rights, environmental concerns, and aspirations of the Ogoni people.

However, the chapter reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of peaceful engagement, unity, justice, and sustainable development in Ogoniland, while calling for continued dialogue among all relevant stakeholders.
