Former President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed optimism over clinching the governorship seat of his home state, Zamfara.

Gusau, who picked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship Nomination form at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, last week, told The Guardian, yesterday, that he decided to join the governorship race to actualise his desire of giving his people a new hope amid the banditry, kidnapping and economic woes in the state.

“I am very confident of emerging the next governor of Zamfara State because my people needs me. They have high level of confidence in me to deliver as their governor, and together, we are marching on. I have held series of meetings with them, and I can tell you that I am the people’s choice,” Gusau stated.

In 2019, Gusau was denied the party’s ticket. “I didn’t allow that disappointment in 2019 to weigh me down because I have the belief that my mandate to govern my people in Zamfara will surely come,” he said in a telephone chat with The Guardian.

“My good people in Zamfara need freedom, peace and security, which have eluded them over the years. My people are facing series of challenges, and with every sense of modesty, I am offering myself to serve them.”
