Governor Nyesom Wike has accused the Federal Government of planning to cause chaos in Rivers State. He claimed that the attack on his convoy by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad and soldiers attached to the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi, was a pointer to a grand ploy to plunge the state into crisis.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government at the centre should be held responsible if anything untoward befalls the state.

Wike dropped the hint yesterday during a thanksgiving service at the State Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt to mark the “Global Human Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award “ bestowed on him by the Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA).

The governor, whose security aides and those of Amaechi clashed in Port Harcourt at the weekend, said the assault on his convoy should not surprise anyone because it was an indicator of the desperation of the APC government, adding that the people of the state should expect worst actions in the future.

However, Amaechi has denied the allegation, saying the governor was engaging in a power show that led to his narrow escape after being shot by his security men.

Wike further accused the Federal Government of using the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, to cause crisis in the state through contrived judgments.

He alleged that the court had set up a special panel for the purpose of dissolving local councils in the state and enthroning APC members sacked in 2015 by the Federal High Court as council chairmen.

His words: “The President, Court of Appeal is being used to cause crisis in Rivers State.  When you see that something is going bad, let your people know. That is what I am doing. Despite the fact that the appeal on the local government matter has been scheduled for February 2018 at the Supreme Court, the President Of the Court of Appeal has set up a special panel for the matter.”

Wike further claimed that the appellate court was being used to create an atmosphere of conflict in the state to pave the way for the central government to execute something sinister.
