Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has chided the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged inability to conduct national convention.

The governor said a party that could not organise its convention would be inept in administering the country.

Wike spoke, yesterday, at reception organised to celebrate the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, by Imo State PDP chapter at Kanu Nwankwo Sports Complex, Owerri.

A statement by the governor’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, quoted the governor as saying that such inability shown by the APC was another proof for Nigerians to deny the party any place in governance.

Wike said: “Nigerians are angry because the party (APC) at the national level is a failure. It’s a failure to the point that they are ruling Nigeria with tension. To sign the Electoral Act, they keep on postponing it everyday and Nigerians are tired.

“What they are doing is to postpone convention. A party that cannot hold a national convention, is it the party that can rule Nigeria?

“Ordinary convention, a party in power cannot hold one. Look at how we did our own convention. That is to tell you that PDP is the party that should rule Nigeria. This is the party that will rule Imo State too.”

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), Senator Walid Jubril, acknowledged the tremendous work done by the leaders of the party to ensure it waxed stronger.

Jubril said members of the BoT are in support of what the governors and the National Working Committee (NWC) were doing as they galvanise the party faithful and Nigerians in the mission to rescue the country.

PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, led members of the NWC to the event.

THEY spoke just as the PDP in Rivers State tackled the Cross River APC over Wike’s visit to the state for a political campaign a few days ago.

Cross River APC Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, had on Tuesday at a press conference said Wike would no longer be allowed to cross the boundary of political decency. He described Rivers governor as meddlesome interloper, stressing that enough is enough.

But Rivers PDP, in a statement titled: “The Unwarranted Outcry of Cross Rivers State APC and her Impossible Demands: a Case of Timidity, Confusion, and Resignation to Empty Threats,” issued to newsmen, yesterday, at the party state secretariat in Port Harcourt described Eba’s declaration as callous and dumb.

Akawor said: “Just like the saying goes ‘when the thing greater than the cricket enters its hole, the cricket runs for fear’. It does not in any way presuppose that the thing which entered the cricket’s hole had entered with the intention of causing chaos. It is only an impulse felt by the inferiority of the cricket.”
