The lifeless body of a middle-aged woman was on Thursday morning found dangling in an uncompleted building in Idokpa community close to the Benin Bye Pass in Edo State.

It was learned that the woman, who was not a resident of the area, may have committed suicide the previous night.

When the sad news broke on Thursday morning, residents of the area trooped to the building to catch a glimpse of the gory sight with many wondering what could have happened.

One of the residents, who simply identified himself as Samuel, confirmed the woman did not reside in the community.

He said several residents, who saw her corpse, could not identify the deceased, increasing the speculation that she might have come from another part of the city.

He said: “We all ran there when the news got to us but no one seems to know the woman or where she came from. Hopefully, the police will help unravel the mystery.”

Another resident, who spoke in confidence, noted that the occurrence took many by surprise and wondered what could have led the woman to take her own life, adding, only God knows the true position of things for now.

It was also gathered that the owner of the building called the police in the area for the evacuation of the corpse to the mortuary.

When contacted, the Edo State Police spokesman, Kontongs Bello, said the police were investigating the matter and would come up with a statement in due course.
