Akwa Ibom State residents are in a festive mood as the first-ever Annual Ibom Boat Regatta and Fishing Festival kicks off on Friday.

According to the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, the event scheduled to be held at Marina Beach, Nwaniba, is organized as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World Tourism Day celebrations in the state.

Already, the three communities billed for the regatta carnival, namely Nwaniba, Mbiakong, and Ifiayong, are in top spirit awaiting the mouth-watering prizes to be won, in addition to other numerous consolation prizes.

The commissioner said the ceremony, which is expected to have the Governor of the state, Pastor Umo Eno, as the Special Guest of Honor, will feature: the unveiling of the restored Slave boat and the Slave Memorial Park.

Udoh disclosed that the event would commence with a float roadshow with cultural displays from the Ibom Plaza to empty at the Nwaniba beach, where the audience would be thrilled by two of state’s best homegrown artistes “Disasta” and “Mr. Amanam”.

The commissioner, who said the ceremony promised to be a spectacle to behold, had accordingly extended Special invitation to leading politicians, Organized Private Sector, stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry as well as the general public.
