Allied Forces retake Bir Saliba, West Darfur as army pushes towards Al-Khuwai

Sudan conflict

As the unrest in Sudan continues, the country’s government said the Allied Joint Force units have seized the position of Bir Saliba in West Darfur while the Sudanese Armed Forces pressed their advance in West Kordofan toward Al-Khuwai, in the latest gains reported by the army and its allies across the Western Front.

Bir Saliba in the Sirba locality north of Al-Junaynah, the Capital City of West Darfur, lies on routes leading into the State Capital. The RSF claimed control of the position in early August, and its recapture by the Joint Force, a coalition of Darfur movements fighting alongside the national army, reverses that claim and restores a forward position in the north-West of the state.

In Kordofan, army forces are said to be advancing toward Al-Khuwai, with Al-Nuhud identified as the next objective.Army air defences downed an RSF CH-95 drone to the Worth-west of Al-Khuwai, part of the continuing effort to protect advancing troops from the militia’s drone attacks. The advance follows the army’s capture of Al-Mazroub in North Kordofan on Friday, a town an army source described as the RSF’s largest stronghold in the state.

The statement made available by the Sudanese Embassy in Nigeria said the army and its allies have sought to reassure civilians in the areas coming under government control.Army-aligned groups have urged residents of the Dar Hamar region to remain in their homes, and forces in Al-Mazroub were reported to have made no arrests among the civilian population after taking the town.
The militia, by contrast, has continued to strike civilian targets from the air. The Sudan Doctors Network said RSF drone strikes on El Obeid killed five people and injured 47 at a dormitory of Kordofan University and destroyed an events hall in the Wad Al-Toumi area.
The army has said its operations will continue until state authority is restored and civilians are protected across Darfur and Kordofan.
