German President arrives Nigeria today, targets improved bilateral ties

The German President, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is expected in Nigeria today for a three-day official visit to bolster diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
During his visit, which concludes on December 12, Steinmeier will hold discussions in Abuja with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr Alieu Omar Touray.
The talks are expected to centre on strengthening political collaboration and regional cooperation.The German leader will also visit Lagos, where he is scheduled to engage with business leaders, tour a start-up hub, and meet cultural icons, including Dr Nike Okundaye of the Nike Art Gallery and Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. Additionally, he will explore urban development challenges in Lagos, with a particular focus on environmental and social issues.
Accompanying Dr Steinmeier is a high-level business delegation comprising CEOs and senior executives from Germany’s IT, high-tech, and energy sectors, underscoring Germany’s growing interest in Nigeria as a key investment and economic partner in Africa. This visit underscores Nigeria’s strategic importance to Germany in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
