English actor Tim Curry, best known for his iconic role as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.

Curry first portrayed the flamboyant character on stage before reprising the role in the 1975 film, which went on to become a cult classic.

He also gained widespread recognition for playing the terrifying Pennywise in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It and as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.

His other notable credits include The Hunt for Red October and Home Alone 2. Curry was also nominated for three Tony Awards during his Broadway career.

His manager confirmed his death to CBS, the BBC’s US news partner.
