South Africa’s Minister of Justice, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has expressed concern over the growing impact of international backlash against the country’s stance on illegal immigration, noting that it is affecting South African artistes who rely heavily on global performance opportunities.
She made the remarks during a press briefing in Pretoria.Kubayi said some South African artistes have begun experiencing cancelled shows abroad, as tensions linked to xenophobic incidents and policies continue to influence public perception.
She stressed that the government is working to clarify its position, stating that South Africa is focused only on the repatriation of illegal immigrants and not targeting legal foreign nationals.
According to her, efforts are ongoing to engage international partners and provide support to affected citizens and businesses. She added that authorities are also addressing the broader diplomatic and economic consequences of the situation while working to reduce tensions and restore confidence.
