The Yahaya Kwande Foundation has donated inspirational books for the rehabilitation of inmates at the Jos Correctional Services, Orphanage and a school.

The organizations are, Hope for Survival Orphanage Abuja, Trust International and CLAPAI Orphanage Jos.

Founder of the Foundation and Chief Executive Officer, Yusuf Yahaya-Kwande, who presented the books in separate occasions in Jos, said the materials will give the inmates hopefulness and opportunities to explore new venture while reading and it will help boost their self-esteem in the correctional center. Some of these books contains Life skills which can help them rebuild themselves against the future after completing their serving terms.

Evidently, book reading in prison can be therapeutic, it reshapes the minds of the reader, educate and motivate them to explore new ventures in life. Reading can lessen the rate of violence, stress and suicides attempt cases.

Our aim at Yahaya Kwande Foundation is that after some inmates have served their time in the correctional centre and are set free, they go home with a new attitude/character about the importance of life and freedom and work to be functioning members of their society at large, contributors to the community and good role models to their friends and families.

Yusuf said the foundation engaged in books donation to reactivate reading culture and to play its part in bringing the joy of reading to many families who might otherwise have no access to books, thereby availing them the opportunity to improve their lives.

The goals of the foundation, he stated, “We buy books from Spine and Label bookstores Abuja and partner with them to select books of various genres and curricula for the users’ needs.

The foundation has delivered 800 books to 2 orphanages, a School and to a prison.
Plans are in place to continue more donations to Orphanages, Inmates and to the people who are less privileged in the country.

The founder enlightened us more that the foundation has made contact with reputable publishers abroad in order to import thousands of books to execute the project across the country.
“The significance and impact of books reading can`t be overlooked, whether its Inspirational books, Scriptural books, educational, Cooking books, Storytelling book etc..
