Yari lauds President’s swift response to insecurity in Zamfara

Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for deploying troops to tackle insecurity in the state.

The response was sequel to the alarm raised by the governor and his request, weekend, for stronger military presence in his domain.

Yari, who was reacting to the order issued to security chiefs to deploy 1,000 combined troops to Zamfara to deal with the security challenges facing the state, said the action brought big relief to his government and would go a long way in relieving the state of the psychological trauma caused by the bandits.

The chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) said the decision by the Federal Government to deploy 1,000-strong military force to the state would ensure quick resolution of the incessant attacks in the rural farming communities of the state.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Ibrahim Dosara, yesterday, the governor said the action demonstrated the good intention of the Buhari administration in fulfilling its campaign promise of securing the country.

He remarked: “With the deployment of 1,000-strong military force combining the army, air force, police and the civil defence, government of Zamfara now has absolute confidence in dealing with banditry and encouraged to collaborate with the Federal Government to end the menace, which has displaced 18,000 persons from over 18 villages in Zurmi council and other parts of the state in the past few days.”

The NGF chairman also described the presidential authorisation of advanced satellite surveillance technology to ensure accurate detection of movement and location of criminals as worthy of appreciation, adding that it would help significantly in the operation.
