Yobe CP embarks on strategic area Commands’ visits to strengthen community policing

The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Usman Kanfani has embarked on a strategic visits of Area Commands’ to strengthen community policing in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, including Damaturu, the state capital

The command said the visit of four Area Divisional Command’s is part of efforts of the police to strengthen security collaboration, enhance community policing, as well as improve service delivery across the State.

In a statement released Thursday in Damaturu, The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim said: “The tour of area commands commenced with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Fune, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Saleh Idris Ibn Usman, where the Commissioner of Police formally introduced himself as the new Police Commissioner in Yobe State.”

.The police chief solicited for the Emir’s support, guidance, and continued partnership in sustaining peace and security.

The Emir welcomed the CP and assured him of the Emirate Council’s cooperation and support in community policing in the chiefdom.

The Commissioner thereafter visited the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat, where he met with the Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government, Hon. Salisu Muktari. He commended the Council’s support to the Command and called for sustained collaboration towards ensuring a safer environment in Potiskum and the State at large.

At the Potiskum Area Command Headquarters, the CP held an interactive meeting with stakeholders, community leaders, and representatives of various associations from Potiskum, Yindiski, Nangere, Fika, and Damagum Divisions.

Addressing the stakeholders, CP Kanfani emphasized the importance of community participation in crime prevention and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies. He further called on leaders of farmers, herders, and other associations to promote peaceful coexistence and discourage their members from engaging in acts capable of undermining public peace.

The CP warned that criminal elements and persons found in possession of dangerous weapons without lawful justification would face the full weight of the law. He also directed officers and men to remain proactive in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.

During the engagement, the Rescue and Less Privilege Support Foundation (RLPSF) honoured the Commissioner of Police with an award of excellence in recognition of his commitment to security and community service.

The tour concluded with an address to officers and men of the Area Command, where CP Kanfani charged personnel to remain disciplined, professional, respectful of human rights, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

The command reassured residents of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property through effective policing, strategic partnerships, and sustained engagement with all stakeholders.
