ZSUBEB concludes 2024 basic Education sports tournament

The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB), under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Professor Nasir Garba Anka, has successfully concluded the state-level final of the 2024 Basic Education Sports tournament held at the Zamfara State College of Arts and Science (ZACAS), Pilgrims Area, Gusau.

The tournament featured five sporting events, including football, volleyball and handball, with participation from boys and girls in primary and junior secondary schools across Zamfara State.

The competition was organised to promote sporting activities among pupils and students, while supporting the holistic development of basic education in the State.

The much-anticipated football final was contested between Kaura Namoda zone and Talata Mafara zone at the ZACAS sports ground.

At the end of the match, the Talata Mafara zone emerged victorious with a 1–0 scoreline, securing the championship trophy in the football category.

Following the conclusion of the football final, winners from the various sporting events joined in a colourful celebration and presentation of trophies.

The Permanent Member I of the Board, Madawaki Engineer Dahiru Shehu, who represented the Executive Chairman, Professor Nasir Garba Anka, congratulated the winners and presented trophies to the victorious teams in their respective categories.

Speaking to newsmen, the Director of Academic Services of ZSUBEB, Alhaji Garba Abdullahi, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Chairman, explained that the tournament was organised in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abuja, as part of efforts to promote sporting activities among pupils and students in line with the development of basic education in Nigeria.

Alhaji Garba Abdullahi further explained that the 2025/2026 tournament commenced at the local level before progressing through the various stages across the 36 states of the federation. He disclosed that the successful Zamfara representatives would proceed to the North-West Zonal Competition, which is scheduled to be hosted in Kaduna State.

He congratulated all participating schools, pupils, students, coaches and officials for their commitment, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Abdulahi also wished the Zamfara State representatives success at the forthcoming North-West Zonal Competition, expressing optimism that the state’s representatives would perform excellently and return with more trophies.
