The University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) will on Sunday, February 15, 2026, hold its 31st yearly pre-Ramadan lecture at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Main Auditorium, UNILAG, Akoka.
Several senior public officials and Islamic scholars are expected at the event, including Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, and Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Secretary-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
The lecture, themed “The Light Beyond: Guiding Our Souls to Paradise,” which will begin at 10:00 a.m., is aimed at preparing Muslims spiritually for the Ramadan fast.
According to the organisers, Oloyede is expected to speak on “Muslims: The Challenge of National Security,” while the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Dr Ridwan Jamiu, will deliver a lecture titled “The Path to Paradise: How to Get There.”
Other activities lined up for the event include a Qur’an recitation challenge, free medical tests and distribution of Ramadan palliatives.
Besides, the organisers said the yearly lecture series, which began in 1995, was established to prepare Muslims for Ramadan, promote Islamic education and engage the public on contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective.
Meanwhile, President of the UNILAG Muslim Alumni, Dr Mumini Alao, who spoke on this year’s lecture, said national security was chosen as the lead topic because of its importance to the country.
Alao said that the choice of Zulum as Chairman of the occasion was significant, given Borno State’s experience with insecurity.
He also described the lecture as a reunion for Muslim graduates of the institution and a platform for giving back to society.
