Nice essay, but when will we start promoting local direct investments? The stock market is supposed to promote local direct investments, primarily. The best and proper way to boost the country’s integrity, transparency and accountability is by growing local direct investments through the NSE (Nigeria Stock Exchange). The government must be encouraged to hand over the economy to Nigerians through the NSE by way of IPO (Initial Public Offer). Enterprises like NNPC, Eleme petrochemical company, Kaduna refinery, Warri refinery, Port-Harcourt refinery, Ajaokuta steel etc. should be sold to Nigerians through the NSE by way of IPO. This will promote and boost local direct investments as well as integrity, transparency and accountability of the Nigerian economy. We must never forget, charity begins at home. Once local direct investments are growing foreign investments, whether direct or indirect, will be begging to get involved. We don’t need to compete for foreign investments, they will come once we have done the needful.
