Nigerian travellers heading to the United States may soon have more options for reaching destinations on the West Coast and beyond as Delta Air Lines expands its operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The airline said it would operate its largest and most premium experience in Los Angeles next summer, with the carrier and its partners offering more than 200 daily departures at the peak of the summer 2027 schedule.

A statement by the Chief Revenue and Experience Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, Courtney Moore, said the expansion is expected to give travellers from Nigeria additional routing options, particularly those travelling to California and other destinations in the West, as well as passengers connecting onward to destinations across the Pacific.

Delta currently operates nonstop services between Lagos and Atlanta, Georgia, providing Nigerian passengers with access to the airline’s wider United States network through its Atlanta hub.

Moore said that with the expansion of its Los Angeles operations, Delta was seeking to strengthen another important gateway for travellers connecting between the United States and international destinations.

For Nigerian passengers, the expanded network could provide additional routing possibilities when travelling to destinations in California, other parts of the U.S. West Coast and selected destinations in Asia and the Pacific, Moore said.

The airline said it had invested $2.3 billion in its Sky Way project at LAX, which connects Terminals 2 and 3 and is designed to provide passengers with a more seamless airport experience.

According to Delta, customers travelling in its Delta One premium cabin have access to dedicated check-in facilities, private Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security screening and Delta One Lounges.

The airline also plans to open an additional Delta Sky Club at LAX in 2027.

Moore said investment by airline partners in connectivity was helping to strengthen Los Angeles’ position as a global destination.

She said: “Los Angeles shapes, transforms, and influences the world, and LAX is proud to be the gateway connecting travellers to our city.”

For Nigerian travellers, Delta’s growing Los Angeles presence adds another dimension to the airline’s U.S. network beyond the Lagos-Atlanta connection.

While Atlanta remains the U.S. gateway served directly from Lagos by Delta, passengers travelling onwards to destinations on the western side may have additional routing possibilities through the airline’s wider network.

With more than 200 daily departures planned from LAX at the peak of the summer 2027 schedule, the airline expects the airport to play an increasingly important role in connecting passengers across the United States and to destinations around the world.
