Yayi lauds Tinubu, others after Ogun APC governorship endorsement
An advocacy group, Positive Thinkers and Yayi Progressive Movement, has urged residents of Ogun State to support the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 elections, citing equity, competence, and a track record of performance as key considerations.
The group said that while the state had long been regarded as a hub of industry and innovation since its creation in 1976, Ogun West has yet to produce a governor, describing the situation as a lingering imbalance that should be corrected.
In a statement, yesterday, signed by its President, Dr Olayiwola Ogunpaimo and Secretary, Fatai Egunleti, the group said that the 2027 election presents an opportunity to address decades of marginalisation of the Yewa-Awori people, while also choosing a candidate with demonstrable leadership credentials.
The group maintained that producing a governor from Ogun West would strengthen unity and foster a sense of belonging among all zones in the state.
Also, the daughter of the former President and a governorship aspirant contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Iyabo Obasanjo, yesterday, suspended her gubernatorial ambition and declared support for the party’s governorship consensus candidate, Adeola.
She congratulated Adeola on his emergence as the party’s candidate.
Meanwhile, Adeola has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and key leaders of the APC following his emergence as the party’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Adeola described the endorsement as a honour and pledged commitment to the party’s ideals and the development of the state.
“I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed leader and President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the progress of our great party and nation.
“I also acknowledge the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, and elder statesman, Segun Osoba, as their backing played a significant role in my emergence.”
