2027: PDP group calls for zoning of presidential ticket to South

A network of support groups under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that in the interest of the party, the 2027 presidential ticket be zoned to the Southern part of the country.

This warning comes against the backdrop of moves by the former Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to vie for the presidency under the party flag.

The National Coordinator of the network, also known as the Coalition of PDP Intellectuals, Grema Mohammed, said, “As we build up to 2027, we are staunchly warning the leaders of our party that this time, we must put the party first and return the party to the Southern part of the country.”

The Publicity Secretary of the network, Usman Saeedu, during a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, said they have vowed to return PDP to its former glory by putting it back on track to winning the presidency by 2027.

To achieve this, he said the party must take steps forward by fielding vibrant, intelligent, tested, and trusted individuals to represent the party in the 2027 presidential race.

The group said they are making the call to the elders of the party, governors, stakeholders, and members, stressing the need to heed the call to actualize their goals.

The group said, “We are calling for a twin reform of zoning the party ticket to the South and seeking out competency and ability as the guiding benchmark, saying PDP cannot afford other mistakes. We cannot continue to drain the energy and resources of party members in vain, all because institutions that are responsible for doing the right thing are failing in their duties.”

The group further called on people who are always aspiring for the party’s presidential ticket, irrespective of the situation and the dictates of the times, to know that supporting others is a call to service, saying the overall interest of every PDP member should be the victory of the party at the presidential election. Hence, their interest should unilaterally align with the party’s interest, no matter the cost.

The network, while disclosing plans to lead the campaign to all the zones, stressed the need for PDP to zone the 2027 Presidential ticket to the South.
