2027: Zulum dissolves cabinet in Borno

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State

Governor Babagana Zulum has dissolved Borno’s 22-member State Executive Council (SEC) ahead of next year’s general elections.

According to him, the immediate dissolution of the cabinet was to provide an enabling environment for any ex-member who may wish to contest an elective position at the polls.

Secretary to the State Government (SSD), Dr Bukar Tijani, in a statement yesterday in Maiduguri, said: “With the cabinet dissolution, the governor has therefore directed the former commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to the Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.

Zulum, therefore, expressed his appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and invaluable socio-economic contributions to the development and services rendered to the people of the state.

It has been reported that about five outgoing commissioners from the Borno North and Central Senatorial Districts wanted to succeed the governor.

Zulum had earlier, at the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) State Congress in Maiduguri, stated that he does not know who would succeed him at the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Political analysts and power brokers in the state are, however, very much concerned about Zulum’s successor, who could effectively sustain the numerous development projects and programmes executed since May 2019 for the people.
