ADC Primary: Atiku explains meeting with Hayatu-Deen

ADC presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has clarified the reason behind his recent closed-door meeting with fellow aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, following the party’s presidential primary.

The meeting, held amid post-primary tensions within the ADC, is part of ongoing reconciliation moves aimed at calming frictions among leading contenders after a disputed contest that produced Atiku as the party’s flagbearer. Hayatu-Deen, along with other aspirants, had earlier raised concerns over the conduct of the exercise.

Atiku said the engagement was necessary to strengthen unity within the party and ensure that internal disagreements do not weaken its chances ahead of the 2027 general elections. The discussion is understood to be part of broader consultations involving key stakeholders as the ADC moves to consolidate support after the primary.
