Anambra State will enjoy a better tax regime if it votes in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oseloka Obaze, in the November 18 governorship election.

Addressing PDP women during a rally in Awka yesterday, wife of the candidate, Dr. Ofunne, disclosed that the aspirant had plans to harmonise the current tax system.

Ofunne, who was accompanied by wife of former governor Mrs. Margaret Obi and other women stakeholders, decried the effects of multiple taxation re-introduced by the current administration, saying government had failed to operate an effective tax system in the state.

She said that if elected, the aspirant would expand the tax base, reduce tax burden and introduce solitary monthly payments.

“The move is aimed at relieving the plight of market women who are struggling to make ends meet and take care of their families. They are currently burdened with multiple market levies, and it should not be so,” she said.

Dr. Obaze also noted that the PDP would make Awka a befitting capital, repair bad roads and construct new ones linking adjoining settlements.

She reiterated the commitment of the party to free, quality and compulsory education from kindergarten to Junior Secondary Three, and plan to increase the budget for education.
