APC convention panel begins screening of aspirants today
Senate caucus denies endorsing any national chairmanship candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention Screening Sub-Committee, yesterday, confirmed that the screening of aspirants begins today.
The panel, chaired by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State, would conduct the exercise in two batches. The Secretary, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Otagburuagu, in a statement, explained that the aspirants are to be screened at the Katsina State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
He added that the screening of the National Chairman and other National Working Committee (NWC) aspirants would be communicated to them in due course.
THIS comes as the APC caucus in the Senate dismissed as untrue, reports that it had endorsed one of the three senators seeking to be elected as national chairman of the ruling party.
The contenders are Adamu Abdullahi, Sani Musa and Tanko Al-Makura. They have indicated interest for the national chairman seat at the convention holding on March 26.
Spokesperson for the Senate, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, reiterated that the APC members in the Red Chamber had not endorsed any of the aspirants. He said: “I am not aware that the APC Senate caucus has adopted any senator for the position of the national chairman of the party.
“I know that three senators are contesting, and there was no where or occasion when we took any decision to adopt any particular candidate.
“We would be very happy if any of them emerge as the APC’s national chairman on Saturday. “The emergence of any of the three senators would be a good omen to our institution.”
