APC women’s directorate visits Kaduna hospitals, highlights Tinubu’s health policies

Betta Edu and members of the APC Women's Mobilisation Directorate during their visit to one of the Kaduna hospitals.

The Directorate of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has undertaken a hospital outreach in Kaduna State as part of activities aimed at engaging women and vulnerable communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, led by former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, visited Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital, where members interacted with patients, healthcare workers and hospital administrators.

According to the organisers, the visits formed part of pre-rally activities undertaken at the direction of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to provide support to patients, particularly women and children.

The programme also provided an opportunity for party representatives to discuss healthcare initiatives introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and seek grassroots support for his re-election.

The Majority Leader of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Munirat Suleiman Tanimu, also participated in the outreach.

During the visits, the delegation met with patients receiving treatment and held discussions with hospital personnel.

The organisers said the engagement was intended to demonstrate concern for the welfare of vulnerable residents and draw attention to the challenges facing people who require medical assistance.

They also said the First Lady had encouraged the directorate to reach women and children receiving treatment in hospitals across Kaduna ahead of the campaign rally.

Speaking during the exercise, Edu said the Tinubu administration had introduced interventions intended to make healthcare more affordable and accessible.

She identified maternal healthcare as one of the areas receiving government attention.

According to her, pregnant women are benefiting from free maternal healthcare services at selected hospitals, including delivery services, Caesarean sections and prescribed medication.

She also referred to federal interventions involving subsidised renal dialysis and cancer treatment.

Edu said the measures formed part of the administration’s efforts to reduce the financial burden associated with accessing healthcare.

The former minister also commended the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative for supporting maternal healthcare.

She highlighted the initiative’s involvement in midwives’ training and the provision of medical equipment, describing the interventions as contributions towards improving maternal health services.

The organisers said some patients and other beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit.

According to the directorate, some beneficiaries also commended President Tinubu and the First Lady for federal government programmes they believed had helped their families.

The statement said some participants pledged support for the President’s re-election and expressed hope that maternal healthcare interventions would continue and expand.

The Kaduna exercise formed part of the APC women’s directorate’s grassroots mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the organisers, the programme combined visits to vulnerable residents with discussions about the administration’s policies and programmes.

The directorate said its objective was to engage communities directly and draw attention to issues affecting women, children and families.

The outreach also included political messaging in support of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The two facilities visited were Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital in Kaduna.

The organisers described both hospitals as beneficiaries of the outreach.

The directorate said its activities were intended to keep the concerns of women, families and vulnerable communities at the centre of its engagement.

Organisers maintained that improved healthcare access was an important part of the administration’s wider development agenda.

They also linked the programme to efforts to mobilise support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Kaduna outreach comes as political organisations intensify preparations for the next election cycle, with party representatives using community activities to communicate their policy positions and engage potential voters.
