Bamaiyi hails Yilwatda’s endorsement of Mutfwang for 2027

Yilwatda

A former All Progressives Congress (APC) publicity secretary in Plateau State, Alhaji Shittu Bamaiyi, has praised the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for endorsing Governor Caleb Mutfwang as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bamaiyi said Yilwatda’s position demonstrated his commitment to party loyalty and discipline, dismissing suggestions that the APC national chairman could be swayed by ethnic, religious or regional sentiments.

Speaking in an interview, Bamaiyi described Yilwatda as frank, steadfast and principled, particularly on issues about which he holds strong convictions.
He said some commentators had misinterpreted the national chairman’s uncompromising stance on party supremacy and loyalty as arrogance.

According to him, before the launch of the PBAT Door-to-Door campaign in Jos on Wednesday, some people had alleged that Yilwatda was tacitly supporting a factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate because of tribal considerations.
Bamaiyi, however, said Yilwatda dispelled the speculation when he addressed supporters at the event, declaring that Mutfwang was the only APC governorship candidate in the state.

He added that the national chairman urged Plateau residents to vote for President Bola Tinubu, Mutfwang and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Bamaiyi said the declaration had clarified Yilwatda’s position and reinforced his belief that the national chairman would not compromise his convictions because of ethnic, religious or regional considerations.

He described the endorsement as a directive to APC members and supporters to mobilise for the party’s candidates across the state ahead of the elections.
Bamaiyi also argued that Plateau State stood to benefit from maintaining strong political ties with the Federal Government, citing what he described as gains the state had recorded under the Tinubu administration.

He said Yilwatda’s position as an indigene of Plateau State, coupled with the state’s relationship with the Federal Government, should encourage residents to support the APC in the forthcoming elections.
Bamaiyi warned that failure to support the party could carry political consequences for the state, arguing that cooperation with the Federal Government would be in its interest.
