Opposition parties under the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) have urged Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to set the machinery in motion course for conducting elections into the 23 local government areas of the state.

Besides, the parties also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his promise by withholding the local government funds from the Federation Account to any state that refuse to conduct council polls.

Addr‎essing a press conference yesterday in Kaduna, Chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim Taba said the governor has failed in the mandate given to him by the people of Kaduna State.

According to him, “We the Kaduna State chapter of CNPP frowned at the way and manner, APC government under the leadership of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai is steering the boat of leadership in Kaduna State, which leaves so much to be desired, especially as it affects adherence to the rule of Law as provided‎ by the 1999 Constitution.

“We also noted his desire to deliberately avoid conduct of local government election up till‎ the end of his administration contrary to his campaign promises of conducting local government election three months after being sworn in.”

He said, “From all indication, Malam El-Rufai is seriously afraid of conducting local government election because the unprecedented defeat that will befall it shall be monumental, hence we strongly condemn the perpetual refusal of the government to conduct local government council elections.

“In the 2016 budget, Kaduna State government has made provision of N3.5 billion for local government election in the local government budget. We are in November. What will happen to the funds at the expiration of his tenure because it is evident that he has no intension to conduct the election.”

The CNPP Chief continued, “Since the advent of this current democracy, the local government administration in Kaduna State has never been in a worse situation like it is today. It is evident that through out the tenure of the so called interim management committee, not for once has the governor released the local government funds to them directly as it came from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

“He never remitted the ten percent of the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the local government areas as he promised. All the pledges made on local government autonomy are all lies aimed at misleading the good people of Kaduna State.”
