The Federal Character Commission (FCC), on Sunday, called on former Senate President Adolphus Wabara to provide evidence for his recent bribery allegations.

This statement comes in response to Wabara’s claims that the FCC refused job placements for individuals in his constituency.

Wabara alleged that his attempts to secure jobs for people in his wards were thwarted, revealing that he gathered the resistance was because he did not “drop any money.”

Reacting to the allegations, in a statement by the FCC’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Chuks Okoli clarified that the commission is not a recruiting agency but a regulatory body.

He recalled that the controversy arose following a March 2023 courtesy visit by Senator Wabara to FCC Executive Chairman Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, where he reportedly sought job assistance for his family. Dr. Dankaka reiterated that the Commission monitors recruitment processes within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to uphold fairness and equity, denying any capacity to provide jobs directly.

The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the Federal Character principle with integrity.

Okoli said: “As a Nigerian of such high status, the response may not be what he expected. At the end of the meeting, the Honourable Commissioner representing Bayelsa State was asked to see him off to his car.

“For this weighty allegation, it will be appreciated if His Excellency, the former Senate President, can mention the name of the person that asked him to pay a bribe to enable him to secure FCC job slots for his children and grandchildren or substantiate his allegation.

“The general public is hereby asked and encouraged to disregard this unsubstantiated allegation of ‘bribe for FCC job slot’ made by former distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara.

“The Executive Chairman, since her assumption of office, has been very strict in the application of the Federal Character principle in staff recruitment by the MDAs.”
