Only five political parties have started preparation for the September 21 local government polls in Kwara State.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) has confirmed and released the candidates of each party for the race.

KWSIEC has pasted the list of candidates for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions at its office, confirming the five political parties participating in the election.

According to the list, the parties include Accord Party (AP,) Allied Peoples Movement (APM,) the Social Democratic Party (SDP,) the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, as the date for the contest approaches, the main opposition the PDP has at various opportunities expressed fear and concern over the electoral umpire to conduct a free, fair, and unbiased election next month.

Sources yesterday hinted that the situation must have accounted for the number of participating parties in the election.
