Archbishop Obinna deplores last polls in the state
In their resolve to express their minds and ensure credible polls in the on coming governorship election in the state, group of elders in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state made historic resolution pronouncement throwing their heart of support for a known governorship candidate from the Imo East senatorial zone, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha.
After personality speaker by speaker speech occasion held at Art Nouve Event Centre, Owerri on Friday, they express desire to other voters of state to respect their wish as elders to make the state move forward.
In the event attended by prominent Imo sons and daughters, including two former deputy governors of the state, Douglas Acholonu and Ebere Udeagu; a former Minister of Commerce, Charles Ugwu, an Engineer; a former Minister of Transport, Kemafor Chikwe; a former Chairman of the PDP and Minister of Establishment Services, Innocent Nwaoga; a former Imo State Coordinator of the NAPEP, and two term member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Oliver Enwerenem; a former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Max Duru, some retired military Generals, among others, the elders resolved in a statement read by Ugwu, and endorsed by about 18 personalities, stressing that they found Ihedioha, satisfying the aspiration of the Imo State at the moment, urging that he should be given the opportunity to rule the state.
In another development, the Archbishop of Owerri Ecclessiastic province, Anthony Obinna, described the presidential and National Assembly polls in the last Saturday elections as charade of “distorting actual voting, accurate counting and impartial announcement of election results leading in some cases of violence and burning down of polling and collation centres.”He advised against repeat of the electoral inadequacies in the last polls.
