Lawmakers, former minister to dump PDP for APC

A former minister of state for foreign affairs and serving federal and state lawmakers, all of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress in Yobe, Abubakar Bakabe APC's Yobe State secretary said on Thursday.

“Arrangements have been completed for the reception of the former minister of state foreign affairs; Jibrin Maigari, former PDP Board of Trustees member; Mohammed Shettima Saleh, former members of House of Representatives; Suleman Ishaku and Mohammed Kori and, erstwhile member of Yobe State House of Assembly; Nasiru Hassan Yusuf,” Bakabe told a press conference in Damaturu.

“These PDP defectors will be officially received by the party very soon, as we have completed arranges for their reception into the APC ruling in Yobe,” he added.

The defection, he said, is “a turning point in the political history of the state and it has opened a new chapter to the economic and political fortunes of the party in the state.”

He said the PDP members are defecting to APC; because of the developments recorded in the state and the leadership qualities of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam which provided every part of the state a sense of belonging.

“The defectors confessed to the holistic developmental stride of the Gaidam administration through road construction, accessible and affordable health care delivery, education, agriculture etc. in every part of the state irrespective of political differences.”

He said Governor Gaidam will personally lead a delegation of party officials to formally receive the politicians along with their supporters.
