The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has called on political parties to present the best of their candidates with credible credentials for the forthcoming polls in November 2024.

Chairman of the Commission, Babatunde Osibodu, gave the advice during the ongoing screening exercise for councillorship candidates held at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Osibodu said: “The screening exercise is going on well. Political parties have presented their candidates for screening and everyone is being attended to.”
He said that the commission had ended the screening exercise for councillorship candidates, while screening for chairmanship position, would begin today, October 7.

He said that any spillover of councillorship candidates would be given consideration the following week. Osibodu also said that if for any reason a candidate is disqualified, the party would have to present another candidate for screening.

In another development, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, will, on Friday, October 11, 2024, lead the foundation-laying ceremony for the Inland Dry Port in Ogun State.

The port, located at the Dry Port City in Soderu Village, Itori, along the Papalanto-Ewekoro axis of the state, is part of ongoing efforts to boost economic growth and industrialisation in the Gateway State.

The groundbreaking ceremony, according to a statement by Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to fostering economic development and advancing industrialisation in the state.

The ceremony will be attended by transport experts, regulators, and policymakers, including representatives from the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Ogun State Shippers Association, freight forwarders, and other key stakeholders.
