Ogun PDP, BOOT Party reject IPAC’s call to accept by-election result in Remo

Stop crying over defeat, says APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Because Of Our Tomorrow Party (BOOT), yesterday, berated the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) for asking opposition parties in the state to accept the outcome of last Saturday’s by-election for Remo Federal Constituency.

While PDP accused IPAC of being an agent of destruction to democracy, the BOOT party accused its leadership of being a mouthpiece for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following the opposition parties’ rejection of the results of the by-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced APC’s Adesola Elegbeji as the winner of the by-election for the Sagamu/Ikenne/ Remo Federal Constituency, polling 41,237 votes to beat the main opposition, PDP’s Bolarinwa Oluwole, who scored 14,324 votes.

But IPAC, through its Chairman, Abayomi Sanyaolu, had, on Wednesday, called for calm among aggrieved opposition parties, particularly the PDP, urging them to accept the outcome of the results or go to court.

However, the State Chairman of the BOOT Party, Arch. Abiodun Akerele, in a statement yesterday in Abeokuta, urged IPAC not to turn a blind eye to what he described as “dubious” results of the by-election, insisting that opposition parties have the right to reject the results by INEC.

Akerele said that the results of the election were allegedly rigged in favour of the ruling APC and did not meet the expectations of the people of Remo Federal Constituency on a free, fair and credible poll, urging opposition parties in the state to ignore IPAC’s call to accept the result.

He warned IPAC not to force aggrieved political parties into silence over the outcome of the by-election, expressing disappointment in IPAC for having neglected its role in promoting credible elections and defending democracy rather than being a mouthpiece for alleged “electoral fraud” by the APC.

Reacting to the alleged rigging of the by-election, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described opposition parties, especially the PDP in the state, as crying wolf over their defeat at the poll.
