A presidential aspirant of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Engr. (Dr.) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley, has challenged opposition presidential candidates to tell Nigerians what they intend to do differently to address the country’s challenges if elected in 2027.

Kingsley, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, said the 2027 presidential election should be about competing ideas, policies and practical solutions rather than merely seeking to remove the incumbent administration from office.

He said Nigerians deserved to know the implementation plans, resources, timelines and expected results of the alternatives being presented by presidential candidates, arguing that some political actors appeared more focused on acquiring power than explaining how they would govern differently.

“As Nigeria moves deeper into preparations for the 2027 general elections, I believe the presidential campaign must be centred on the future of Nigeria, with greater emphasis on ideas, policies, programmes and practical solutions rather than personal attacks, political exchanges and the pursuit of power for its own sake,” he said.

Kingsley, who is challenging the declaration of Donald Duke as winner of the PRP presidential primary held on May 25, said removing an incumbent should not, by itself, constitute a national development agenda.

He urged candidates to tell Nigerians not only what they oppose but what they intend to build and the pathway through which they would deliver it, saying personal experience and political history could not alone constitute a national development programme.

The PRP aspirant also commended ongoing road infrastructure projects by the present administration, particularly the Coastal Highway, saying his assessment was informed partly by his professional experience as a highway engineer.

He, however, stressed that the commendation did not mean all was well, noting that many Nigerians continued to face economic hardship, rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and difficulties in meeting basic needs.

Against this backdrop, Kingsley said the YMK Nigeria Project had developed an alternative national policy framework covering national objectives, implementation structures, resource requirements, timelines and the respective roles of the Federal, state and local governments.

He said the framework also provided for community participation, private-sector involvement, monitoring mechanisms and measurable indicators, stressing that roads, power, agriculture, education, security, employment and industry must form part of a coherent national development plan.

“This is the difference between having promises and having a governing plan. A policy must lead to a programme; a programme must have an implementation structure; implementation must produce measurable results; and those results must ultimately be reflected in the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

Kingsley, who said his group was awaiting the Federal High Court judgment scheduled for November 2, 2026, on the dispute concerning his participation in the 2027 presidential election, urged candidates and political parties to elevate the quality of the campaign by presenting detailed, practical alternatives.

“Nigeria does not lack ideas. What the country urgently needs is the disciplined conversion of sound ideas into policies, policies into programmes, programmes into projects and projects into measurable national outcomes,” he said.
