In a bid to douse tension, new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, yesterday extended an olive branch to Senator Magnus Abe and other aggrieved members to end the feud in the party.

But the Abe’s faction through the former Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Worgu Boms insisted that it was necessary for the party to obey the Justice Chiwendu Nwogu ruling, which nullified the result of the APC congresses.Flag-Amachree, who reached out to the aggrieved members in Port Harcourt, said it was baseless for the party stakeholders and their supporters to engage in political feud when they have the incumbent government to contend with.

He pointed out that he intended to meet all the aggrieved members, as part of effort to achieve genuine reconciliation, stating that the APC would stand united and strong to win the 2019 elections in the state.

However, the Abe faction has urged the APC to comply with the court order that nullified the wards, councils and state congresses held last month. Some disgruntled APC members had obtained an interlocutory injunction from a Port Harcourt High Court restraining the party from using the outcome of the ward congress to organise the council congress, which the party ignored.

Boms argued that it was preposterous for Flag-Amachree to be parading him as the new chairman of the party because in the eyes of the law, the party never held congresses in the state due to pending litigation before the court.

In a related development, the Enugu State chapter has begun moves to reconcile factions and aggrieved members with a view to winning the 2019 elections. The Guardian learnt that already party leaders have agreed in principle to allow concessions in the delegates for its national convention, absorb intending members and persuade those intending to file law suits against one of the suspended members named into the convention’s appeal committee.State Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told reporters at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, that the party was determined to take over the Enugu State government next year.

Nwoye stated that the party was ready to return President Muhammadu Buhari to office by winning elections in the state and Southeast zone.Meanwhile, the Kwara State wing of the APC has inaugurated its new executive members.State counsel, Olanrewaju Afeez, administered the oath of office on the 36 executive members and 16 local council chairmen.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, state chairman, Isola Balogun-Fulani, advised the new executive members to carry along every member with a view to moving the party forward. He also admonished the party leaders to reconcile aggrieved members where and when necessary to assuage their misgivings.
